Mission Statement: The Service with Jazz Program is committed to employee excellence through recognition and training. The Key Instrumental Employee Recognition program will distinguish those employees that have exceeded all performance expectations through their dedication and commitment to the University.

The Employee Training program will ensure that the UNO community is customer centered not only to our student but among our colleagues. The customized professional service training will reinforce what you already know with new techniques and tools to achieve a "high note" with our customers.

Key Instrumental Employee of the Month Recognition:

If you have witnessed a staff or faculty member contributing to UNO's missions to provide educational, economic, cultural, and social well-being support to the vibrant City of New Orleans; please let us know!

We will recognize one employee of the month. This employee must demonstrate a strong work ethic, customer service, commitment, loyalty, leadership and motivation to the University.

Key Instrumental Monthly Employee Recipients will receive the following:

  • Certificate acknowledging your award
  • Picture and story of accomplishments on the HRM website
  • Reserved parking for one month
  • Service with Jazz bag and pen

Key Instrumental Employee of the Year Recognition

The key instrumental employee recipient will be selected from the monthly recipients by the Employee Awards Committee.The employee will be recognized at the Annual Employee Awards Ceremony.

Key Instrumental Annual Employee Recipients will receive the following:

  • Cash Award of $500
  • Plaque
  • Picture and story on the HRM website

Eligibility Requirements for the Employees of the Month and Year Awards:

All UNO Classified, Non-Classified, and Faculty (full time or part-time) are eligible for the Key Instrumental Monthly and Annual Employee Award. All nominees must have been employed with the University for at least one consecutive year. (Excludes student workers, graduate assistants, temporary, and intermittent employees)

Eligibility Criteria:

The employee must demonstrate excellence in job performance, initiative, attitude, involvement, responsibility, dependability, customer interaction and cooperation.

Nomination Procedure:

  • Please complete the Nomination Form
  • UNO Faculty and staff my submit nominations
  • Nomination deadline is the 15th of each month
  • One employee will be recognized at the beginning of each month
  • The nominees will only be eligible for the month they are nominated
  • The Key Instrumental Employee will be determined by the Employee Awards Committee. This Committee is selected by the Office of Human Resource Management and consists of seven employees from various department on campus.

Professional Service Training:

The Service with Jazz Professional Service Training Program was developed to improve the customer service thoughtout the University. Through group discussions and exercises you will learn to develop and implement more "customer-oriented" service.

The training will address the following 5 Customer Service Expectations:

  1. We consider the needs of our customer as the highest priority.
  2. We take initiative to assist all customers.
  3. We communicate action to satisfactorily resolve each customer's problem.
  4. We present a professional image and appearance at all times.
  5. Communicate in a caring and friendly manner.

We will provide training classes as well as train-the-trainer classes to provide more flexibility within the departments.

Announcements will be posted on the HRM website and sent though email regarding the dates and times of the training that will be offered.
